The Narrandera Imperial Eagles’ Football Netball Club (Eagles) senior team’s season ended with a 105-point defeat against the Turvey Park Bulldogs last Saturday.

The Eagles 4.2 (26) lost against the Bulldogs 28.16 (184) in their final Riverina Football League game this year at Maher Oval, Wagga.

Staying in touch in the opening quarter, the Eagles trailed by just three goals, but it was in the following quarter when the Bulldogs displayed their superiority.

The Eagles kicked one goal and a single behind while the Bulldogs piled on the points, adding another eight goals and two behinds to their tally to take a 61-point halftime lead.

After the restart, the Bulldogs showed no mercy, booting seven goals and seven behinds, while restricting the Eagles to kicking a single goal.

Heading into the final quarter with a 104-point lead, the Bulldogs held the Eagles scoreless, while they blew out the scoreline by kicking another eight goals and six behinds.

The goal kickers for the Eagles included Barry O’Connor (2) and one each for Blake Renet and Mitchel O’Keefe.

Their best players were Barry O’Connor, Jayden Carroll, Issaac Carroll, Darcy Mimmo, Christian Davis and James Smith.

Meanwhile, the Eagles’ reserves 4.2 (26) lost against the Bulldogs 10.10 (70), also missing out on finals football.

Only three points, in the Bulldogs’ favour, separated the teams at the end of the first quarter.

However, the game started to slip away for the Eagles in the second quarter as the Bulldogs opened up a 16-point halftime lead.

Just a single goal for the Eagles after the restart and one goal and one behind to the Bulldogs kept the Eagles in touch, trailing by just 17 points with the final quarter remaining.

The Eagles failed to score a single point in the fourth quarter, handing the Bulldogs a 44-point victory.

Goal kickers for the Eagles were Drew Matthews, Matthew Dillon, Jacob Bolton and Joel Maniscalco.

The Eagles’ best players included Brandon Hall, Dale Quilter, Shaun Quilter, Matthew Dillon, Jacob Bolton and Callum Auldist.

The Eagles’ Under 18s 7.11 (53) defeated the Bulldogs 2.4 (16) to be crowned this season’s minor premiers and head into the finals with a confidence-boosting 37-point win.

Flying the flag this season for the Eagles, the Under 18s raced away to a 20-point lead at the end of the opening quarter.

The Bulldogs rallied and cut the margin to 15 points at halftime, but the Eagles dominated after the restart, holding the Bulldogs scoreless, while kicking two goals and four behinds to open up a handy 31-point lead with the fourth quarter left to play.

The teenage Eagles won convincingly in the end and head into the finals on the back of five consecutive wins at the end of the regular competition rounds.

The Eagles’ top goal kicker was Riley Boag with three six-pointers.

Their best players were Riley Parslow-Gibson, Max Beaton, Noah Tait, Jye Winnell, Zac Scott and Felix Warren-Porteous.
