VRA Rescue NSW Commissioner Brenton Charlton was on hand to witness as Leeton VRA Rescue Squad celebrated the outstanding service and dedication of its volunteers recently.

The evening brought together members from Leeton and Narrandera Squads, with Leeton Shire Mayor, Councillor George Weston, joining members and guests to recognise the invaluable contribution these volunteers make to their communities.

During the ceremony, members were recognised with a number of prestigious awards, including:

• Commissioner’s Commendation presented virtually to Peta Sinclair.

• Commissioner’s Unit Citation awarded to the Leeton Squad and its members for their outstanding teamwork and commitment to emergency rescue operations.

• Long Service Awards recognising significant milestones of volunteer service.

• The NSW Premier’s 2022–23 Flood Emergency Citation was presented to members from both Leeton and Narrandera Squads in recognition of their service during one of New South Wales’ most significant emergency responses.

A highlight of the evening was recognising founding member Wal Lingen for years of dedication, leadership and commitment.

Commissioner Charlton thanked all award recipients for their commitment to VRA Rescue NSW and to the communities they proudly serve, acknowledging that the organisation’s strength is built on volunteers who continue to answer the call whenever help is needed.
