Narrandera Shire Council’s Narrandera urban stormwater upgrade has progressed to the procurement stage, marking another step forward in the delivery of the project’s main drainage system.

The works will involve the excavation and installation of approximately 1250 metres of box culvert through central Narrandera. The proposed drainage alignment will extend from Bolton Street, near Willans Street, to an area south of Larmer Street.

Narrandera Shire mayor Neville Kschenka OAM said the project represents a significant investment in the town’s future.

“The Narrandera urban stormwater upgrade is an important project that will improve the resilience of our stormwater network and provide long-term benefits for our community,” mayor Kschenka said.

“Reaching the procurement stage is a positive milestone and brings us another step closer to seeing this major project delivered.”

As part of the tender process, contractors and members of the project team will attend a mandatory site inspection on the afternoon of Thursday 17 September.

The inspection will commence at Hankinson Park before participants walk along the proposed drainage alignment.

Community members may notice a group of people wearing high-visibility clothing in the area during the inspection. There is no cause for concern, with the site inspection being a standard and important part of the tender process.

A separate tender for the project’s stormwater pump station is also expected to be released in the coming weeks. This component will focus on the existing stormwater basin located south of Larmer Street.

Council will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses through procurement and into delivery, with further information about proposed construction timings to be provided once they are confirmed.

This project is supported by the Australian Government’s National Emergency Management Agency through the Disaster Ready Fund.
