Narrandera Pony Club is looking forward to an exciting 2021 with some upcoming events to start the year including a Super Cross competition on February 7.

Instructor Catherine Curry said an overnight muster was planned for this weekend, where riders get to catch up and camp with their horses.

“We have invited riders from other pony clubs to join us too.

On Saturday, riders will have lessons with various Instructors from around the area,” Catherine said.

“When it gets too hot, they will stop riding and work on theory for certificates.

“In Pony Club, riders are encouraged to undertake various efficiency tests according to their age and ability.

“These certificates aim to encourage the interest and improvement in knowledge of its members. In working for them riders acquire valuable knowledge and skills, which enhance their riding experience.”

On Saturday night, riders will have some fun with a barbecue at the clubhouse.

“Everyone was too busy at the end of the year, especially with harvest, to have a Christmas party, so we are having a Start of Year Celebration instead,” Catherine said.

On Sunday morning, riders will have a practice canter around the cross country. They will also be timed as in cross country, an optimum time for each grade is calculated.

Depending on their grade, riders are expected to ride up to 350 metres per minute, with about 20 obstacles to jump or ride through along the way.

If riders finish the course too fast or too slow, they can be eliminated, so riding to time is an important technique to learn.

Catherine said the muster was in preparation for Narrandera Pony Club’s upcoming Super Cross Competition on Sunday, February 7.

Competitors will need to complete a cross country and show jumping course, competing against others in their graded group.

All Junior and Adult Pony Club members are welcome to join us at this event (but must have a One Day Event Grading Card).

Entries can be made at www.horsecomps.com.au before Sunday, January 31. Any enquires about Narrandera Pony Club or the Super Cross can be emailed to narranderapc@gmail.com
