Australia Post has officially opened a new delivery centre in Corowa despite abandoning a historic building in Narrandera’s main street some time ago to continue providing services from a removable building in Audley Street.
It is also downgrading its services in Coleambally, which has attracted a backlash from that community.
“Australia Post’s long-term commitment to strengthening services in regional communities and ensuring they remain well supported as customer needs continue to evolve,” Australia Post senior executive Shane Plant said.
“With eCommerce and online shopping continuing to grow, this new site gives us the capacity we need to keep pace with demand and maintain reliable, on time delivery for our customers.
“This purpose-built facility not only boosts efficiency but also provides a safer, more modern working environment for our team members.”
Australia Post said the new facility was purpose built to support the region’s long term growth, helping local posties process parcels earlier in the day and get out delivering to customers sooner across Corowa and surrounding communities.
The centre will process more than 225 parcels per day, increasing to around 350 during peak periods, which it says will support continued growth in online shopping across the region.
The building features a spacious 450sqm layout, incorporating a dedicated letter processing area and a large warehouse to enable efficient truck unloading and parcel sorting.
