Every day should be seen as an opportunity to thank our veterans, serving defence personnel and their families for their service and sacrifice.

However last week Member for Riverina gave special recognition to those who served during the Korean War – a conflict often referred to as the “Forgotten War”, despite the immense courage and sacrifice of those who fought in it.

Between 1950 and 1953, Australian servicemen and women served alongside United Nations forces in defence of South Korea enduring harsh conditions and fierce fighting in the pursuit of peace and freedom.

“It was my great privilege to accompany Narrandera’s John Sullivan to a special commemorative service in Wagga today, alongside fellow veterans Harry Edmonds and Maskell Burke,” Ms Cooke said.

“I also extend my sincere respect and gratitude to their families, as well as all those who served alongside them.

“As time passes, it becomes even more important that we continue to honour the legacy of our Korean War veterans and ensure their contribution to our nation is never forgotten.

“Thank you to the Wagga RSL Sub-branch for its ongoing commitment to preserving the memory of those who served, and to Wagga Wagga City Council for supporting last week’s important ceremony,” Ms Cooke concluded.
