Leeton Shire Council is inviting the community to celebrate a significant milestone in local early childhood education through a special art exhibition marking the 40th Anniversary of the Leeton Early Learning Centre (LELC) and Early Learning Matters Week.

The exhibition is on display at the Leeton Museum and Art Gallery until Saturday 5 September.

Featuring artwork created by children attending LELC, the exhibition will showcase the creativity, imagination and unique perspectives of young learners while highlighting the important role early childhood education plays in supporting children’s development and wellbeing.

Originally opened as the Leeton Child Care Centre on 12 June 1986 by Noel Hicks, the service has supported generations of local families over the past four decades.

The centre was renamed the Leeton Early Learning Centre in 2007, reflecting the evolving role of early childhood education and the importance of learning in children’s formative years.

The exhibition will also include a collection of historical photographs and memories from the centre’s 40-year history, providing visitors with an opportunity to reflect on the many children, families, educators and community members who have been part of its journey.

As part of the celebrations, council is inviting current and former families, past educators, and community members to contribute photographs, memorabilia, stories or other items that help tell the story of the centre’s rich history.

Items may be included in the exhibition, subject to suitability and available space.

Manager Community Development, Sarah Stewart, said the exhibition is a fitting way to celebrate both the centre’s 40-year history and the significance of Early Learning Matters Week.

“For 40 years, Leeton Early Learning Centre has played a vital role in supporting local families and providing children with a strong foundation for lifelong learning,” she said.

“This exhibition celebrates not only the centre’s history, but also the creativity, curiosity and potential of the children who continue to shape its future.”

Early Learning Matters Week highlights the importance of quality early childhood education and recognises the valuable contribution educators make in helping children learn, grow and thrive.

Community members, former families, past educators and residents are encouraged to visit the exhibition and enjoy a unique glimpse into the centre’s history while celebrating the achievements of its youngest artists.

Admission is free.
