The Narrandera Ex-Servicemen’s Club sponsored TC Lee OAM Memorial Community Race meeting is being staged on Saturday 15 August, and the meeting caps off another busy season for Narrandera Race Club and the hard-working volunteers.

Narrandera Race Club has in recent seasons actively worked on strengthening ties with community clubs and groups to encourage visitors to Narrandera, so they can enjoy our towns facilities and attractions.

We have a long-standing relationship with our local Lions Club who provide services as required and generate income for their local projects.

This year we teamed up with the Narrandera Golf Club who staged a successful 2 person ambrose on the Saturday before the Narrandera Cup, attracting locals and visitors alike including the great ‘Miracle’ Mal Johnson, who loved the course and atmosphere.

The outstanding donated prizes allowed the Narrandera Golf Club to generate some extra revenue and we are sure some lessons learnt which will allow this event to grow.

Narrandera Ex-Servicemen’s Club are long time partners of the Narrandera Race Club and securing Miracle for the calcutta night was a coup.

The entertainment he provided at the Calcutta and his mingling and availability at the Golf Day, Calcutta and Narrandera Cup meeting was outstanding.

Building on that weekend, it would be great if a Friday or Saturday Bowls tournament aimed at bringing visitors to town for the cup weekend could be incorporated.

The iconic Rum Cup was on that weekend which is a very important event for locals and Tom Lee’s ties to the Legacy organisation was a big part of his life it is very important. With some joint cooperation between all parties, it could be a win all around for Narrandera.

Along with that we are recognising individuals in our racing community who have made a significant contribution to the club over long periods.

This year Narrandera Race Club is having the trainers and Jockeys premierships recognised with a perpetual trophy in memory of the late Peter Bloomfield.

Peter was an integral member of racing community for many years, and we are sure it will be an emotional day on Saturday if either Peter’s son Shane or Shane’s uncle Wayne Carroll can take out the trainers premiership.

Anthony Craig another local trainer is also in the race for the trainer’s premiership.

With our final race day of the season approaching, Narrandera Race Club is proud to be part of our local Community and recognises the importance of putting as much as possible back into Narrandera.

Saturday’s meeting will be a six-race program, headlined by the TC Lee Cup, and gates open at 11am.
