The Narrandera Imperial Eagles’ Football Netball Club (Eagles) Under 18s won back-to-back premierships following a thrilling grand final win against the Wagga Tigers last Saturday.

Playing on home turf at Narrandera Sportsground, the teenage Eagles 13.9 (87) defeated the Tigers 9.10 (64) to be crowned this season’s premiers for the second straight season.

A six-goal haul from Huxley Coelli and a Riley Boag Best on Ground performance to win the Kohlhagen Medal were just two of the highlights in the Eagles’ 23-point victory in the premiership decider.

A tight opening quarter resulted in the Eagles taking the slimmest of leads, going one point ahead at the end of the first quarter as both sides traded goals.

The Eagles stepped up their game in the next quarter with Coelli booting four six-pointers, which helped the Eagles open up a 22-point lead going into the main break.

Just as ruthless after the restart, the Eagles restricted the Tigers to kicking just a single behind in the third quarter, while extending their lead with two goals from Riley Boag and a behind to enter the final quarter leading by 34 points.

A comeback looked like a slim chance of happening and if not for inaccurate kicking in front of the goalposts, the Tigers could have made the latter stages of the game a nerve-wracking experience for the Eagles.

The Tigers rallied in the fourth quarter, kicking three goals and five behinds, while restricting the Eagles to two goals.

The Hutchins Medal for Best on Ground was awarded to Haiden Schloithe from Coolamon Rovers.
