Officers attached to the Murrumbidgee Police District commenced an investigation following reports of an assault at the Commercial Hotel on Yapunyah St, Barellan, last Friday night.

Police were told two men had assaulted a 31-year-old man at about 9.30pm that evening.

The victim sustained serious injuries to his face and self-presented to Griffith Base Hospital for treatment.

He has since been discharged.

Following extensive enquiries, at about 2.15pm Saturday 29 August officers arrested two men, aged 38 and 42, at Barellan Showgrounds Road before they were taken to Griffith Police Station.

The 42 year old was charged with:

• Reckless wounding - in company.

• Common assault.

The younger man was charged with:

• Reckless wounding - in company.

Both men were granted conditional bail to appear before Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 21 October.
