Heavy rainfall caused some minor flooding in some locations throughout the Riverina last week as a deluge affected many locations.

A low and cold front brought rain and thunderstorms, with moderate to locally heavy falls, to many parts of the Riverina.

More than 40 mm of rain was reported to have fallen in Coolamon, inundating the main street with water.

Although the recently refurbished Coolamon Hotel escaped water flowing into the premises, part of the street directly outside was fully submerged due to the heavy downpours.

Temora was another location to experience a deluge – almost 50mm of rain fell over two days early last week, but there were no reports of serious flooding.

Although the rain had eased midweek last week, water levels continued to rise in some areas as floodwaters moved through the catchment.

Some crossings became inundated even after rainfall had stopped.

The locations in the Temora area that were affected with flooding and roads closed included:

• Cedar Road – Entire Length

• Thanowring Road – Old Wagga Road north end

• Trungley Hall Road – Trigalong Creek crossing (just past Research Station Road)

• Bundawarrah Road – Trigalong Creek crossing

• Trewins Lane – Trigalong Creek crossing

• Combaning School Road – Causeway near Old Cootamundra

The band of rain and thunderstorms moved off to the east coast later in the week.

Very little precipitation is expected in the Riverina during the first week of spring, with little or no rain forecast.
