A Leeton man found sleeping in a car at the rear of the town’s cemetery has been charged after police allegedly found drugs, syringes and a bullet.
Police attended the rear of Leeton cemetery at about 10.38am on Thursday 17 September, where they found a silver Hyundai Getz parked.
The car was running and a 31-year-old man was allegedly asleep in the driver’s seat.
Police turned off the car and took the keys before asking the man what he was doing at the cemetery.
Police allege he was unable to give a reason and was arrested because he was breaching his bail conditions.
A search of the car allegedly found a syringe containing a clear liquid in the driver’s side door.
Police also searched a green pencil case found in the man’s jumper pocket and allegedly found a clear resealable bag containing a white powder.
A second syringe containing a red substance was also allegedly found in the pencil case.
Police allegedly found a single 7.6×39mm ammunition round next to the syringe in the driver’s side door.
The man was taken to Griffith Police Station and charged with possessing a prohibited drug and possessing ammunition without a licence or permit.
He was refused bail and appeared in the bail division of the court on 18 September, where bail was again refused and he was due to appear in Griffith Local Court on 23 September.
