Paramedics raced to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash near Barellan about 9.15am on Tuesday.

Multiple people were assessed at the scene of a crash that closed a major Riverina thoroughfare. Burley Griffin Way was closed in both directions near Barellan due to the two-car crash on Mannings Road.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson said emergency services were called to the scene about 9.15am, following reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Six people were involved.

It is understood conditions in the area were foggy. A rescue helicopter was tasked to the scene.

Diversions were put in place with motorists detoured via Centenary Road and Brobenah Hall Road before rejoining the Burley Griffin Way west of Barellan.

Motorists were warned to allow extra travel time and follow directions from emergency services on the scene.

The roads are now open.
