OCTOBER 21, 1953

The battle for the O'Farrell Cup cricket competition enters another season at Bolton Park, Wagga, tomorrow.

Wagga, true to their usual form, won the trophy from Coolamon-Ganmain in the last match of last season. Tomorrow the challengers will be Narrandera.

The game will be played at Bolton Park because of the poor state of the Cricket Ground pitch and the necessity to rest It as much as possible to order to have it in good order for the match against NSW on November 24.

Services' captain, Les King, will definitely be available for Wagga this match, but. in the event of Wagga holding the trophy, he will not be available for the game against West Wyalong.

On their performance against Junee last Sunday, the Wagga batting line up is definitely brittle. King and Ferguson were solely responsible last week for Wagga's recovery, but If the team are to successfully defend the cup the selected batsmen must score their share of runs.

The Narrandera team is obviously basing Its attack on spin.

The Narrandera new ball bowling will be handled by Mulholland and MacMicklng.

Mulholland bowls fast medium, whilst MacMicklng's bowling Is well known to all cricket fans.

Gibson, who with Row, is the veteran of the side, will be one of Narrandera's stock bowlers. Butler, the captain, is also a fair slow bowler, but his main use to the team will be as a first wicket batsman.

MacMicklng will also open the batting for Narrandera and his partner will be the youngest of the Peacock brothers, Jack, a century maker of a few weeks back.

Twins Les and Lance Peacock, will be the 'Fergusons' of the challengers' team. Both are hard batsmen, who will go in down the list. Lance Peacock Is also a fast bowler.

The wicketkeeper, Blain, kept In a few matches for Cumberland District in the Sydney competition a few seasons back, so he must know his Job. Reg Row, the remaining member of the Narrandera team, will bat about No. 5 on the list.

The opening batsmen, Davis and McDonald, should be able to get runs, and if Ian McDonald can strike anything like the form he displayed in the early cup matches last season he will give the Narrandera team plenty of fielding practice.

An Innovation this season will be the broadcasting of an hourly score service on this match from 2WG.
