Applications open for Essential Energy’s 2027 Graduate Program

Essential Energy has opened applications for its 2027 Graduate Program, with 22 positions available for graduates looking to build careers supporting customers and communities across regional rural and remote NSW and southern Queensland, as the energy system evolves. Opportunities are available across electrical engineering, AI and machine learning, technology and AI risk, business improvement (AI), AI engineering for digital operations, cyber security, IT (platforms), and supply chain. Graduates will gain hands-on experience in areas such as network modernisation, digital enablement, cyber resilience, operational technology, procurement improvement and customer-focused innovation. AI-aligned roles also support the skills and technology needed to operate a smarter, more resilient network as the energy system evolves. The two-year program includes rotations across the business, tailored learning, mentoring and hands-on experience from day one. Graduates will be supported through a dedicated development program, mentoring, buddy arrangements and access to industry specialists committed to their growth. “Essential Energy’s graduate program is a key investment in our organisation’s future capability and in the communities we serve. These roles offer meaningful career pathways and the chance to contribute to a safe, sustainable and technology-enabled energy network,” Essential Energy organisational development senior program specialist Sally Kay said. As one of Australia’s top-ranked graduate employers, Essential Energy offers a supportive, inclusive and development-focused environment where graduates can contribute to meaningful work from day one. In line with Essential Energy’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, 30 per cent of roles are Female Identified positions, supporting greater representation in non-traditional fields and ensuring the organisation reflects the communities it serves. Rated by graduates as one of the country’s leading graduate employers, Essential Energy places in the top five overall across Engineering, IT, Cybersecurity, Business and Occupational Health and Safety, with strong recognition for training and development, career progression, inclusion and diversity through Prosple, a graduate careers platform. The organisation was recognised in the 2026 Equitable Workplace Awards for the third straight year, receiving the WORK180 Flexible Working Arrangements Large Enterprise Award and the WORK180 Mining, Energy and Resources Large Enterprise Industry Award for equity and inclusion. It is also ranked within the top ten in Australia’s Top 101 Workplaces for Women. Applications opened 7 April and close at 11.55 pm (AEST) on Sunday, 10 May.
