The Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions 2.4 (16) season is over following a loss against the CSU Bushpigs 3.9 (27) in the Southern NSW Women’s League Quarter Final last Friday.
Scoring the only points of the opening quarter with a six-pointer at Kindra Park, Coolamon, the Lions entered the second quarter in front.
However, they were held scoreless in that quarter and went into the main break trailing 9-6 after the Bushpigs kicked one goal and three behinds.
The Lions added a single behind after the restart and if it wasn’t for some inaccurate kicking from the Bushpigs, who kicked six behinds, they could have fallen much further behind.
With the game still in the balance heading into the final quarter, the Lions opened the scoring with a goal, taking them to within two points of the Bushpigs.
They added another behind, but the game started slipping away from them as the Bushpigs kicked two goals to secure an 11-point victory to advance to the next round in the finals series.
The Lions’ goal kickers included one each to Skye Hamblin and Kaitlin Logan.
Best players for the Lions were Stephanie Kissane, Gemma Guthrie, Prue Walsh, Isabelle Inch, Bridie Gregurke and Kaitlin Logan.
The Bushpigs will face the Brookdale Bluebells in a Semi Final game tonight (Thursday) at 7.45pm, while the Temora Kangaroos will take on the North Wagga Saints in the other Semi Final at 6.30pm tonight.
Both games will be played at McPherson Oval, Wagga.
