Griffith travellers flying with Rex will face a new fee structure for changing or cancelling bookings from later this month, the airline has confirmed in a notice to Rex Flyer members.

From 15 September, the airline’s flight change and cancellation fee for applicable fares will move from $44 per sector, per person, to a flat $99 per ticket, per person, plus any applicable fare difference.

Under the current system, fees are charged for each flight sector within a booking.

Under the new structure, the $99 fee will apply once per ticket regardless of how many sectors are involved, and will be charged each time the travel date, time or routing is changed.

Rex says the change will affect bookings made on or after 15 September.

Tickets purchased before that date will continue to be governed by the change and cancellation fees that applied at the time of purchase, under the Conditions of Carriage attached to the original booking.

“Get Me Home” fees, which apply in schedule-disruption situations, are not affected.

In a smaller win for passengers, Rex will also scrap two other charges from 1 October: all credit card surcharges on transactions, and its website booking fee.

The airline says customers booking directly with Rex will no longer be charged either fee from that date.

Rex operates regular services connecting Griffith to Sydney, and the fee changes will apply to bookings made on those routes along with the rest of the network.

Members with existing bookings, or those planning travel close to the 15 September cutover, are encouraged to check the fare rules on Rex’s website before making any changes to their itinerary.
