Narrandera Shire Council is calling on the community to nominate local people and organisations who have made a difference to the Narrandera Shire.

The Australia Day Awards are an opportunity to recognise the people, volunteers, clubs, organisations and community members who contribute to making the Narrandera Shire a great place to live.

Nominations are open across eight categories:

Citizen of the Year – recognising notable service to the Narrandera Shire over an extended period, including acts of compassion, generosity, voluntary service and bravery.

Young Citizen of the Year – recognising a person aged 16 to 24 for notable service to the Narrandera Shire during the preceding year.

Senior Citizen of the Year – recognising notable service to the Narrandera Shire over several years. Nominees may also be considered for Citizen of the Year.

Organisation of the Year – recognising an organisation, business group, sporting team, club or committee for outstanding service or achievement in the Narrandera Shire during the preceding year.

Sportsperson of the Year – recognising outstanding sporting performance, service and contribution to sport within the Narrandera Shire.

Young Sportsperson of the Year – recognising outstanding sporting performance, service and contribution to sport within the Narrandera Shire.

Environmental Australia Day Award – recognising an individual or organisation for outstanding service or achievement in environmental initiatives.

Disability Advocate of the Year – recognising an individual or organisation for outstanding service or achievement in disability advocacy.

For 2027, the Sports Awards have been brought into the Australia Day Awards program.

This brings the community’s sporting achievements into the main Australia Day celebrations and allows standout sporting nominees to be considered for relevant state-level awards.

How to nominate

Residents can nominate no more than one person or organisation and can nominate someone across multiple categories where appropriate.

Council also encourages residents to nominate people who have been nominated in previous years. Not winning an award in the past does not mean their contribution should go unrecognised this year.

Every nominee will receive a certificate of recognition, with the category winners to be announced at the Australia Day Ceremony on 26 January 2027. Nominees will be contacted ahead of the ceremony.

Nomination forms and award guidelines are available at narrandera.nsw.gov.au or can collected from Council’s administration building or Destination and Discovery Hub. Completed nominations must be submitted by 1pm, Friday 20 November.
