Lockhart Shire’s population is growing and expected to continue to increase by 1.5 per cent by 2041.
In the 2016 Census the population was 3,119 and this increased to 3319 in the 2021 Census which represents a 6.41% increase for the five-year Census period or an annual average population growth of 1.28%.
According to DPIE in the Lockhart Shire Local Government Area (LGA) births are exceeding deaths ie natural increase and net migration is positive ( more people are moving to the LGA than are leaving it).
Lockhart Shire General Manager Peter Veneris said the demographic information being made available by the ABS will prove valuable information for Council’s strategic planning including the current review of the Lockhart Shire Local Environmental Plan.
