The Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong Lions started off the 2023 season with a 69 point win against the Leeton Crows over the weekend.

It was a close game with the Lions leading by 21 points up until the final quarter when they soared away with seven more goals to claim a clear victory against the Crows with a score of 17.17 (119) to the Crows’ 7.8 (59).

GGGM coach Sam Martyn said it was a good opportunity to put into play the work they did during pre-season andhe hoped they would continue to build on it over the season.

“Obviously in Round One you’re not sure where you stand so it was good to finally play against an opposition,” Martyn said.

“Its been a while training so it was great to put everything into practice on the field and try and replicate some of those skills and drills and we’re looking to keep building on that for the rest of the season.

“Leeton were very competitive and we only kicked away in the last quarter, so its obvious they are going to be a formidable side this year. Still it was a great result for the Lions.”

GGGM will be facing Griffith in the next round at the Ganmain Sportsground.
