The first-ever Bectric Bonfire Bash and Damper Cooking Competition will be held on Saturday 21 June and offers a great day out for the whole family.

Held at the historic Bectric Hall, gates open at 2pm, with live music from 5pm, a camp oven damper competition and the star of the show - a roaring bonfire to keep patrons warm and light up the chilly winter night.

Entry is just $25 for adults and $10 for children, with each ticket including a hearty serve of homemade soup and the choice of a sausage or rissole sandwich, plus free entry into the damper cooking competition.

The event organiser Debbie Coddington invited people to attend the inaugural event.

“Hopefully it will be the first of many, so come along and have the first immortal bragging rights,” she said.

“Camping can be arranged from Friday to Sunday, but must be pre-booked.

“There is plenty of room for your caravan or tent and a number of caravans have already booked.”

Soft drinks will be available at the kiosk and the Kin and Co coffee van will be pouring hot brews during the day of family fun.

Those who attend are reminded the event is BYO alcohol, chairs, torches and headlamps.

“Whether you are camping or just come for the day and night you can enjoy the live music and atmosphere sitting around the blazing bonfire,” Debbie said.

Bookings are required for camping spots which will be available from Friday to Monday on 0428 732 125.

The damper competition is sure to be a crowd-pleaser, so if you reckon your recipe is the best in the bush, bring it along and throw your hat in the ring.

Those who participate need to bring their own camp oven and ingredients if they have a special recipe to impress the judges.

“We have a panel of judges for the damper competition and things will be anonymous, so you will be issued a number,” Debbie said.

“You can start cooking at any time and then plate and present your damper to our judges at 6pm. Kids are most welcome to also enter.”

The Bonfire Bash is cash-only - tickets can be purchased at the gate.

There will also be an auction for a trailer load of wood.

All proceeds from the event will go to the Bectric Hall.
