The 2026-27 Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the MIA District started on 1 October and ends 31 March 2027.

This includes the LGA’s of Carrathool Shire Council, Griffith City Council, Hay Shire Council, Leeton Shire Council, Murrumbidgee Council, Narrandera Shire Council

During this time, fire permits will be required for all open fires with the below conditions:

• Burning commences at 4pm and must be completely extinguished by 11.59 the same day.

• No burning of timber, logs, stumps or piles (trees, vines, sticks, orchard pruning’s etc)

• Burn notifications are still required. Obtaining a fire permit is NOT a notification, please complete the online notification AFTER the permit holder receives their permit.

• The permit hold must notify their adjoining neighbours 24 hours before lighting the fire.

• All permit conditions must be followed.
