The Rotary Club of Narrandera is a key supporter of this weekend’s Matong Swap Meet and Show and Shine and several Narrandera families and businesses are heavily involved in making it happen.
The event runs from tomorrow until Sunday at the Matong Sports Ground (Football Oval), directly across from the Matong school.
The main event day is Saturday with gates open to the public at 8am and the Show and Shine award presentations at 12.30pm.
It will be a 16-category Show and Shine competition featuring pre-1949 classics, 1950-1974 era, 1975-1995 era, modern vehicles (1996 onwards), hot rods, muscle cars, three motorbike categories (most original/untouched, best original, best custom), best truck, best farm vehicle, and people’s choice across all entries.
Winners receive the inaugural Matong Community Group trophy plus prize packs including toolkits, light bars, car wash gear, wheel alignments and vouchers.
A massive swap meet with over 60 stallholders is already booked.
Friday night kicks off with a community Steak and Chips dinner and live music by local artist Ms Rel from 6pm.
There ‘is a kids’ vehicle-themed colouring competition in partnership with Matong Public School.
The weekend wraps up on Sunday with Harvest Cafe’s famous Sunday Roast (pork and lamb, from 12pm-3pm).
Narrandera Mayor Cr Neville Kschenka and Deputy Mayor Cr Sue Ruffle are attending on Saturday as official guest judges.
Sponsors include: Shannons Insurance, Logan and Hitchens, TyreWorld, MangoMagic, ARB Wagga and Harvest Cafe.
The event is organised by the Matong Community Group with support from the Rotary Club of Narrandera. Public entry is by gold coin donation.
This is a genuine community effort and a real source of pride for the area.
