Narrandera Shire Councillor Neville Kschenka has been re-elected, without opposition, as the Narrandera Shire Mayor for a further two years. The elections were held at Tuesday’s Council meeting.
The Council suspended standing orders at the beginning of the meeting in order to hold the elections. A preferential ballot was selected by the councillors as the preferred method of voting. Cr Kschenka had no contesting councillors and was returned to the position unanimously.
“I just want to say that I’m grateful for the support of the Council and the staff for the last two years. It’s been a successful two years, although this does not always come forth in the public forum,” Cr Kschenka said.
There were two contenders for the position of Deputy Mayor. Deputy Mayor is an optional appointment, but the Narrandera Shire Council has chosen to have the role.
Both David Fahey and Wesley Hall put their hands up for the role of Deputy Mayor. The councillors elected to again vote by preferential ballot and Cr Fahey won the vote 6-3.
Crs Fahey and Kschenka will stay on in their respective roles for another two years.
