Good old days return at Barellan

Barellan Good Old Days Festival returns this weekend after a two year hiatus with live entertainment, grandstand seating and glamping accommodation.

Visitors can choose from a variety of events horse including bullock, camel, donkey, mules and goats in harness, an Australian Light Horse display, camel races, blade shearing, butter churning, dog jump, working dogs, blacksmith, rope turning, sheaf tossing, old fashioned children’s games, bush poetry, scone making, market stalls and the grand parade.

Authentic heritage events, a Furphy Festival, camp oven dinner under the stars with entertainment by The Bushwackers and Bush Ballard Bards as well as others, a Clydie Art Trail and three-day glamping packages.

Ring events are planned for Saturday, the ploughing competition on Sunday and there will also be the Furphy Water Cart train being pulled by David Irvin with his vintage tractor.

One of the highlights will be the Barellan Working Clydesdale Committee horse master Bruce Bandy and Lake Cargelligo Australian draught horse breeder Steve Johnson driving a team of 20 heavy horses pulling a wool wagon. They will be joined by Good Old Days Festival’s Rod Sansom with his donkey and bullock teams, Phil Thomson and his bullock team.

A Perpetual Teamsters Trophy will be judged on traditional authentic Australian style, teams to be in a safe, sound working condition and the ability of the teamster to control the team and the response of the animals to commands will form the assessment. The the team competing for the trophy in 2022 will be the Clydesdales.

Organisers expect a crowd of 10,000 people through the gates this year so are advising people to get there early.
