Lilly’s success at Nationals

Lilly Hewitt takes the bronze medal in the junior shotput at the National Championships; and in action with the hammer throw.

Narrandera athlete Lilly Hewitt took home the bronze medal in shot put at the 2019 National Australian Track and Field Championships.

The week long championships were held at Olympic Park, Sydney, and drew more than 3500 junior and senior athletes from around the nation, Europe, Asia, USA and New Zealand.

Lilly, 16, earnt a place the junior championships through her achievements last year. A Year 11 student at Narrandera High School, she is coached by Wagga ex-Olympian Bill Jacob.

Competing against Australian and New Zealand athletes, Lilly made it to the shotput finals, and with one throw left, scored a personal best of 14.52m and earning her the bronze medal.

She went on to compete in the junior hammer throw, and also made the finals with a new personal best of 42.8m to finish seventh overall.

Lilly is now due to start the 2019 athletic season within weeks.
