Juniors travel for Coly clash

The Junior Eagles went up against Coleambally on the weekend.

The Narrandera junior Eagles footy sides met with Coleambally on their home ground for a strong week of results.

On a beautiful sunny morning in Coleambally the under 11s Eagles started strong. On ball brigade of Isaiah, Oliver, Sam and Alex dominated in the centre and drove the ball deep into attack.  Jake Hutch took a good grab and was busy up forward with Dima Mimmo.

Narrandera first goal came through a good passage of play with Dima kicking to Archie who took a good mark, he went back and kicked long where Cohen took a big grab in the square and slotted it through. Narrandera kicked another two goals during the first quarter off the boots of Taco Lawrence and Dima to hold a good lead at quarter time.

Coleambally came out a different side after quarter time as they held the young goalless for the quarter, but through the great efforts of the Eagles backline lead by Jackson Curry, were able to restrict Coleambally to one goal.

Myles and Harry were also dominating in their positions and created good options coming out of Defence. William Beard rucked well during quarter and Darcy Pendergast and younger brother Jim went in hard to win the hard ball. The margin had narrowed between the tow sides, but the young Eagles still led 22-9 at half time.

The third quarter was a much more even affair with both sides hitting the scoreboard kicking two goals each during the quarter. Taco took a good grab and went back and kicked truly from his set shot. Late in the quarter Cohen show his class and determination and also split the big stick, this gave Eagles a 14 point lead at three quarter time.

In the last quarter the Eagles running machine kicked back into gear with all players chipping in. Tom Wicks and Izzy Gillespie got busy in around packs and Jet Eldridge show plenty of speed to burn his opponent.

Isaiah took some big Marks and kicked a good goal off his booming left foot. Cohen and Taco both kicked goals again and both finished the day with 3 each which a great return for their efforts. The Eagles ran out easy winners, 56-22.

The under 13s Eagles won the toss and dominated early running with a slight breeze and maintaining pressure in the forward line with first points coming from a nice goal from Hunter Robertson.

A late attacking run from Coleambally was held off by some strong tackling being rewarded with a free kick to Louis Deen to relieve the pressure. Louis combined once again right on quarter time with a long kick to Jag Daniel-Alchin who took a well timed mark and kicked the goal.

The second quarter started similar to the first with Jag dominating in the centre, kicking long to Tom McLellan who stepped around two defenders to kick a goal. Tom kicked his second minutes later when Jack Graham shepparded off two defenders to leave the goals open for Tom.

The back line was working well when called upon to clear a few attacking runs from Coly with Tom Pearson marking strong and clearing well along with Harvey Odgers and James Langley.

The third quarter started well with the little men combining to move the ball forward with strong efforts from Harvey, Max Rainbird and Ky Bloomfield. Coleambally kicked their first goal against the run of play midway through the third quarter then another with a more dominant display minutes later.

Narrandera regrouped from the centre bounce moving the ball forward through Jag and Austyn Rankin giving Tom the chance to kick his third goal. Narrandera dominated the end of the quarter with behinds to Jag and Mitchell Forrest.

Narrandera had a sniff of victory and they liked the smell staring the fourth quarter with enthusiasm and skill, moving the ball forward for Austyn to goal. Strong efforts early with Jordan Tunks and Adam McGilvray marking and offloading well.

Jag was rewarded for many strong sole runs throughout the match with a late goal in the last quarter. A much improved team effort from Narrandera sealed a strong win against Coleambally 56-13.
