The Narrandera Junior Lizards had a positive finish to the season.
With the grand final day held in Leeton, it was an opportunity for all the junior league teams to get through to the final.
“It’s non-competitive from nine and under,” said Nicole Warren, Narrandera Junior Lizards Treasurer.
“So with the junior teams’ grand final, the teams are usually drawn from a hat.”
This year, however, Leeton decided to allow all the junior teams to come and play.
“Both our mini league tag teams had a win,” Ms Warren said in an email.
The mini-league tag teams have been a huge success this year, with girls signing up to play rugby in droves. With more players than anticipated, parents have had to put their hands up to coach teams.
Ms Warren puts this new-found interest down to the success of the women’s Rugby 7s side at the Rio Olympics last year.
“Our under 7s and under 9s both came away with wins, while our under 8s finished with a 36-all draw.
“Our under 12s combined team with the Griffith Black and Whites took out the premiership for the second year in a row with a 34-22 win against Leeton.
“All the kids on the day were very proud.”
At the end of the day each player was supplied with a medal from the club.
The Lizards Presentation night will be held later in September, and there will be a fundraising garage sale held at the Henry Mathieson oval on September 23.
