After having the two week bye, the Narrandera Carpheads A Grade team will return to action against ladder leaders L&D Ferrets in a Two Day Match starting this Saturday afternoon at Mark Taylor Oval.
The A Grade Carpheads up until the bye had won their past five matches in a row which captain Brent Lawrence said was a sign that the team has been improving nicely as it starts to get closer to the business end of the season.
“After an inconsistent start to the 2017/18 season in terms of player availability and some poor performances, I’m really pleased with how our side has come together.
“In particular picking up Mick Foster just before Christmas was a big inclusion for us due to his all-round abilities,” said Lawrence.
“The emergence of Ryan Argus at the top of the batting order has been great to watch, Cooper Irons with his raw pace is improving each game as well as the consistency of senior player Rohan Rehwinkel as the Club’s leading wicket taker and second leading wicket taker in the LDCA A Grade competition.”
Currently sitting third on the ladder but equal on 52 points (behind on runs made/wickets lost ratio), this round robin clash for both L&D and the Carpheads will have a big influence on how the top two positions and securing a guaranteed double chance in the Two Day finals series.
“This match is L&D’s final round robin match for the season so this will be their last chance to put in a strong performance to guarantee themselves a top two finish,” said Lawrence.
“For us, like it has been for the past couple of months, it’s do or die and must win for our final two matches in terms of our aspirations of a top two finish.
“All of our players will need to ensure that they each bring a very disciplined approach with both bat and ball to give ourselves every chance of getting the win.
“That application to playing smart cricket starts this weekend because if we can play to our true potential there is a very strong belief in our playing group that we can go a long way in the Two Day finals series.”
