Carps settle in for a good start over YCC

A Grade Carpheads James Sullivan and Lincoln Gooley with Yanco batsman Grant Forrest playing at Yanco Sportsground on Saturday. The Carps had Yanco all out for 152 in 56.1 overs.

After Day One of the Narrandera Carpheads’ first two day match for the season the A grade side is well placed in its match against Yanco Cricket Club at Yanco Sportsground last Saturday.

Yanco won the toss on Saturday and had no hesitation in electing to bat first.

A wicket in the second over to opening bowler Mark Tilyard (2 for 30 off 14 overs) started off the afternoon with the ball in great style. An outstanding direct hit run out by Cooper Irons to get rid of Yanco’s most dangerous batter this year Grant Forrest had the home side reeling early.

Matt Dedini (27 runs) was next to go caught behind off the bowling of all-rounder Mick Foster (1 for 17 off 9 overs).

Talented young player Hugh Collins proved the most resilient of the Yanco batsmen scoring 58 runs before he was brilliantly caught by Luke Argus diving full stretch to his right at mid off.

Jack Williamson continued his strong start to his A grade career picking up 3 for 29 off 10 overs which including narrowly missing out on a hat trick late in his spell.

Senior players captain Brent Lawrence (2 for 20 off 9.1 overs) and Rohan Rehwinkel (1 for 40 off 14 overs) also toiled hard all afternoon as did all of the Carpheads bowlers to see Yanco finish 152 all out in 56.1 overs.

In reply with the bat, opening batsmen Mick Foster (14 runs) and Ryan Argus (8 runs) were going along beautifully until both were dismissed late in the day with the score on 22. This saw vice-captain James Sullivan (12 not out) and captain Brent Lawrence (7 not out) see out the final five overs of the day with the Carpheads finishing on 2 for 44 at stumps going into Day 2 of the game to be played this coming Saturday at Yanco.
