Carps double down at home

Both Narrandera Carpheads teams will be playing at Marie Bashir Oval this Saturday.

Both grades of the Narrandera Carpheads have a home game coming up this weekend.

The Narrandera Carpheads A Grade Team will take on LSC Colts in a Twenty20 match at Marie Bashir Park Oval this Saturday, starting at 3.30pm.

The A grade team suffered a close 20 run loss last Saturday in its 40 over match against Yanco Cricket Club.

Senior players Jono Doyle and captain Brent Lawrence both had good all round games, however it wasn’t enough to get their team over the line for the win.

Both Lawrence and Doyle will be missing from the line-up this weekend due to family commitments.

However the Carpheads will welcome back multiple premiership winning players Lachie Jess and Lincoln Gooley.

The duo are sure to be an added boost to the side. Youngsters Kane Williams and Dylan Whiteman will make their A grade debuts this weekend.

The B Grade side will also be playing the LSC Colts at the Marie Bashir Oval, starting at 12.30pm.

The B Grade Carps missed out on a game last week, as the Yanco Phantoms were forced to forfeit the match due to low player numbers.

“Our boys are looking forward to having another crack at Twenty20; we had a good result last time so will look to improve further,” said B Grade captain Dave Kroek.

“I’m out this week so Brodie Perram will take over the captaincy. “He’s done it a number of times in the past with a lot of success.”

The last time the Carps met the LSC Colts it resulted in a win for Narrandera, and the Carps will be looking to replicate their success.

“We played the Colts a few weeks ago in a 35 over game, but they only had seven players so it will be a much different game. “I’d expect a few of their A graders to help out with numbers so we’ll have to be on our game,” Kroek said.

The B Grade Carps are hoping to deploy some of the strong batters to start the side off on the right foot.

“We’ll look to Brodie to lead the bowling attack, while Wyatt Gilbert and Dylan Whiteman will provide good support there,” Kroek said.

“Ash Cabban and Dillion Penhall will again spearhead our batting. In their last B grade games Ash will be coming off a 50 and Dill a 30 odd so hopefully both get amongst the runs again.”

“We’ll also look to Connor Vearing and Kane Williams in the middle order. “Both have started the season well and would love to post big scores at the park.”

The B Grade Carps will get the first run of the oval, before the A Grade side takes over.

“It’s a good experience for our B graders to play on turf as a lead in to the A grade match. So we will just look to enjoy the experience and have some fun,” Kroek said.
