The Narrandera Carpheads A Grade team will take on ladder leaders Leeton and District Ferrets at Marie Bashir Park oval in Narrandera this Saturday.
The A Grade Carpheads currently sit third on the One Day competition ladder and captain Brent Lawrence said this weekend’s clash is a must win game to keep Narrandera’s chances of a sixth consecutive One Day title alive.
“All remaining games in the One Day format are do or die for us so it’s important we play tough cricket and are disciplined with both bat and ball to give ourselves every chance of finishing in the top two,” he said. “We have blooded four of our youngest cricketers at our club in A grade this year which has been very pleasing as part of a changing of the guard for our A grade team.
“Each week as a group we have been showing positive signs of improvement particularly with our batting. Our players have been committed to being more conscious with their shot selection and showing greater willingness to fight out of tough periods in innings which has been a real positive,” Lawrence said.
This Saturday the Carps welcome back senior player Jono Doyle who has missed the past four weeks of cricket. Lawrence said that having Doyle back in the line-up will provide the team with further batting depth.
“Jono was in great touch prior to missing the past few games. The experience he brings to the team and the strong form he has shown with the bat in the games he has played thus far this season is very encouraging as the season starts to get to the business end.”
The match will commence at 1pm on Saturday.
The A Grade team for this Saturday in a must win One Dayer at Narrandera Park is: B Lawrence (c), J Sullivan (vc) (wk), J Anderson, J Doyle, R Rehwinkel, J Williamson, S Argus, L Argus, R Argus, C Irons, M Tilyard.
All players are to meet at the Park at 12.30pm on Saturday.
The Carpheads Christmas party will also be held this Saturday December 9 in the Charles Sturt Hotel Beer Garden after A, B and C grade home games this weekend. A sausage sizzle provided and no doubt plenty of beers will be flowing. Partners, parents and children are most welcome as well.
B grade Carps keen to return to winners’ list
Narrandera Carpheads B grade team is hoping for dry weather for their home game at Narrandera High School oval on Saturday so they can get on the field again after the washout last week.
“We play Phantoms who haven’t been going that well this year but they have some quality players in their club so it will just depend on who plays we won’t be underestimating them,” said B grade captain Dave Kroek. “Our side will hopefully be similar to last game. We do have a few out with Christmas parties and other events which happens this time of year, but a few others are ready to come in which will be good.”
Kroek said a lot of the younger bowlers had been playing A grade so he would again look to spread the load around there.
“It’s a good opportunity for some guys that maybe haven’t bowled much this year to put in a good performance,” he said.
The Carpheads’ batting has been improving with Jono Schofield and Dillion Penhall in good form this year as well as Ash Cabban coming good last match. Kroek said he would be looking to them at the top of the order to lay a good foundation for the rest of the team.
“Hopefully the weather holds and we get our game in and we can get back on the winners list heading towards the Christmas break.”
All the Carpheads’ teams have home matches this weekend.
