Bidgee comes up swinging

Aaliyah O'Keeffe and Nikalie Vearing give the speed ball a workout at the Bidgee Boxing gym.

The Bidgee Boxing Gym has been ticking along nicely – even playing host to soon-to-be-former MP for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson – but it still needs the support of the community.

According to Chairman Neville Bamblett, the gym is running close to its targets.

“We’re flat out. We’re here nearly every night. We were hoping to get about 50 memberships in the first month, and we’ve got about 40. We’d like to get a few more adults involved if we can,” Mr Bamblett said.

Because the gym relies on volunteers, the Bidgee Boxing committee is hoping for more members of the community to sign up.

“We need volunteers for the front desk,” said committee member Tracey Lewis. “The more people who can man the front desk, the better.

“Age doesn’t matter; we’d just love it if anyone who has an hour to spare in the mornings and the evenings could help out. If everyone comes in for just an hour a month we can keep the doors open.”

Anyone wishing to volunteer at Bidgee Boxing can find volunteer forms at Bidgee Boxing gym. There are also forms available at the office of the Argus. Volunteers will need to pass a Working with Children check, which can be filled out easily online.

“We can help you fill out the check at the gym; we’ve got the computer and the internet there. We’re happy to help out,” Ms Lewis said.
